Getting into a Book

If you can’t tell a book by its cover,
what about inside its leaves?
Succulent and lavish,
in lush golds and greens …
Now a twig sticks out like a bookmark,
there are croaks around page four
where a tree-frog creeps to the next page
to talk to a bright macaw.
The book is damp in the middle,
quite humid, now I look …
“What did you expect?” says Mowgli,
“You’re reading Jungle Book.”
